- Description
- Three lancet shaped single light stained glass windows. The church windows were designed by Oscar Paterson who was born in the Gorbals in 1863. Although the window is a war memorial, the only military image which appears is in the middle of the centre light and depicts a First World War soldier carrying his dying comrade from the battlefield. Considering Oscar Paterson’s attention to detail, the lack of facial features in the carried soldier must have been deliberate. Taken together with the text from John Chapter 15 Verse 13: “Greater love hath no man than this .... we can only assume that the carried casualty represents the ‘unknown warrior’ – any victim of any conflict.
