TRIBUTE BY THE MARQUIS OF ABERDEEN. The Boddam Parish War Memorial was unveiled yesterday afternoon by the Marquis of Aberdeen and Temair. The memorial, which takes the form of a handsome monument, executed in Peterhead red granite, stands a short distance north of the Parish Church in a recess by the roadside It is 'he work of Messrs Heslop, Wilson and Co., Ltd, Boddam. The lower base measures 8 ft. 6 in by 6 ft. 6 in., and the total height of the monument is 21 feet. On the lower die, underneath a carved laurel wreath, there is the inscription, "Their name iiveth for evermore.'' The names of the fallen are inscribed on two panels, which project back and front - Each panel contains thirty names, and underneath the front panel is the inscription, "In grateful remembrance of the loved and honoured belonging this parish who gave their lives in the .Great War." The inscriptions and the names of the fallen are done in raised polished lettering, the rest of the monument being fineaxed. On each end of the die there is a carved crusader's sword, above the name panel inscribed, "1914-1919." The cap is fine piece of work with an "egg and dart" moulding, and the whole is surmounted by a Latin cross, which gives a fine appearance of dignity to the monument. The Roil. The roll of honour, arranged on two panels, is as follows:— (names) Prior the unveiling ceremony a, largely attended joint service was held in the Parish Church. A large company of ex-service men, under the command of Lieutenant Youngson, headed by Piper Stewart, marched to the church, and the school children were present in the charge of the respective teachers. The service was taken part in by the Rev. D. J. MLeod, U. F. Church, and the Rev. William M'Hardy. Parish Church. At the close of the ari adjournment was made to the site of the memorial. The Rev. W. M'Hardy, in calling upon the Marquis of Aberdeen and Temair to unveil the memorial, said the Marquis had held positions in the Empire under the King, but it was not his eminent position which made them receive him readily. It was because of his own personal kindness and generosity and his special regard for Boddam and its people. The house of Aberdeen had had intimate and most pleasant relations with Boddam for a very long time, and was still held by the people of the parish. (Applaud.) Solace to the Bereaved. …...
