Comments: A meeting of the subscribers to the Strathdon War Memorial Fund was held in the Lonach Hall on Saturday evening — William Wattie, Gowanbrae, presiding. It was intimated that the total collected was £254 18s. and that Colonel John Michie, Toronto, had offered a donation of £50. The total amount, after all the subscriptions had been received, including the proprietors donations and one or two balances from entertainments, is expected to be about £500. It was agreed to accept the offer of £325 from Mr Taylor, Aberdeen, for the monument, which is to erected at the junction of the road .leading to Belnabodach with the main road. Two committees were formed, the first for preparing lists of names and a suitable inscription and arranging for the lettering, and the second to deal with the work of erection.

Percy Thesiger of Tornasheen (a younger brother of Lord Chelmsford), who served as a trooper in the West Kent Yeomanry, and saw service in Egypt, Palestine and France before getting his commission. The memorial designed by Mr Arthur Taylor, sculptor, Aberdeen, is modelled on lines somewhat similar to the Cenotaph in London, and has been erected on an island site at the junction of the Belnabodach road with the main turnpike road. Private George Masson, Coul of Newe unveiled the inscription on the monument.
