- /In memory of/Private Wilfred Wood VC/10th Battalion The Northumberland Fusiliers/(2nd February 1897 - 3rd January 1982) /Wilf Wood was born in Stockport, and worked locally for the London &/North Western Railway as a shed cleaner. He enlisted into the Cheshire/Regiment in late 1916, but was transferred to The Northumberland Fusiliers./He saw action in Italy where, on 28th October 1918 near Casa Vana, his unit/was held up by machine-gun fire and snipers.
