- Description
- Square stone battered pillar with triangular broken pediment in centre of which is Lion rampant and wreath; below this is rectangular bronze plaque. Front face of obelisk has carved celtic cross: laurel wreath on side over WW2 names. Monument is in raised fenced enclosure reached by six steps. Two nurses are listed for WW1, but neither is listed on either the CWGC or the Scottish National War Memorial, so their identities are currently obscure. A fully transcribed names list is attached to this report for ease of reference The fact that this is for the whole of the Cowal peninsula is evidenced by the fact that, amongst the WW1 names, to differentiate between common names 2 men are identified as from Sandbanks (just north of Dunoon), 3 from Lochgilphead, 1 from Kilmun and 1 from Innellan
