Description
A rectangular off white stone tablet , the longer axis horizontal , within a dark brown frame . At top left a low relief coat of arms probably of the George family and at top right a low relief badge of the Dorset Regiment . The inscription is incised and coloured dark brown and at bottom is a sheathed sword intertwined with a spray of leaves .

/IN LOVING MEMORY OF/LIEUT ATHELSTAN KEY DURANCE GEORGE/LATE OF THE 1ST BATTALION DORSET REGIMENT /WHO FELL MORTALLY WOUNDED AT THE BATTLE/OF THE MARNE IN FRANCE ON SEPTEMBER 14 1914/DURING THE GREAT WAR AGED 27 YEARS AND WAS BURIED AT COULOMMIERS /HE WAS THE SECOND SON OF ARTHUR DURANCE AND CHARLOTTE ADA GEORGE /AND GRANDSON OF JOSIAH AND RACHEL OLIVE GEORGE OF THIS PARISH /"GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS THAT A MAN LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR/HIS FRIENDS"/
