  • Aberdeen Weekly Journal - Friday 24 September 1915 www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/bl/0000573/19150924/176/0008 Udny Memorial to Gordon Officer. A beautiful tablet has just been erected in Parish Church in memory of the late Lieut. George R. M. Udny, 2nd Battalion Gordon Highlanders, who was killed in action in May last. Lieut. Udny was related to Mr Udny of Udny, and was a frequent visitor at the castle during his holidays, and was extremely popular with all whom he came in contact. He received his commission on his eighteenth birthday, and shortly afterwards proceeded to the front. The tablet, which is a plain -white marble slab a dark base, fixed in the wall of the church the left the pulpit, near the Castle pew, and bears a suitable inscription, surmounted by the crest of the Gordon Highlanders.
