Parish Church of St. Mary Magdalene was tilled with a devout congregation on Thursday afternoon, when the War Memorial Window to the men of the parish who fell in the Great War. was unveiled and dedicated the by Rev. The Warden of New College (Canon W. A. Spooner). The beautifully coloured window has been inserted in tie north wall of the chancel and depicts "Our Lord offering a Crown of Life to the kneeling figure of a Young Knight," beneath which is the text "Be thou faithful unto death and I will give thee a Crown of Life": and on the wall beneath the window is an engraved brass tablet recording a suitable inscription, together with the list of the names of the fallen, namely:— Frank Aris. Alfred J. R. Neal. Edward J. Dillow. William J. Pollard. Richard P. Gardner. Frank A. Richardson Cecil V. Gardner. William T. Ridgway. Harry Holton. Arthur Side. Frederick J. Holton. Shugborough N. Steeden. Percy Jones. Alfred Waring. Daniel Linford. Charles Worvil. William H. Lucas. They died, and, behold, they are alive for evermore." The cost of the window was £105, which was given by about sixty subscribers. The design and execution of the work were entrusted to Messrs. William Morris and Co., London. The impressive choral service was conducted by the Rector, the Rev. P. E. Raynor. The hymn, "Soldiers who are Christ's below,” preceded the Evening Prayer (to the end of the Third Collect), and the special Psalms, "The Lord is my Shepherd" (23), "I will lift mine eyes" (121), "If the Lord Himself" (124), and "Out of the depths have I cried unto Thee, Lord" (130). were sung to chants Hopkins. Beethoven, Garratt, and J. Tyrell. The Lessons (Wisdom III., 1-9, and Rev, VII., 9 to end) were read by the Rev. N. R. Ramsay, R.D. (Radclive), and the Rector. Following the hymn, "Now the labourer's task is o’er," the clergy and Churchwardens (Messrs. F. W. Denchfield and J. G. Gardner) proceeded to the chancel and the Canon said " Let us remember with honour ami thanksgiving those brave men who, to their undying glory, gave their lives in the Great World-War for Country, King, and God." he then read the names as gi\en above, and this was followed by silent prayer, succeeded by three special prayers. then removed the Union Jack from the window and tablet, and dedicated them with the words; "We dedicate this window and tablet for all time to the glory of God, and to the memory of those who were constant, even unto death, in defence of our hearths and homes." The clergy and churchwardens having retired to their seats, the hymn. “Ten thousand times ten thousand,'* was sung, following which the Canon delivered a short address from the chancel steps. He referred to the burial of the Unknown Warrior in Westminster Abbey and the Cenotaph as representative of the nation, and said they had assembled that afternoon at the unveiling and dedication of the new window in honour and grief foi( those of that parish who had fought and given their lives for them, and the window would keep alive for many generations memory of those brave deeds and the noble example which those who had gone had given in the Great War. The hymn, "On the resurrection morning.” was sung, succeeded by the Blessmg, and then from outside the east window of the sacred edifice the heart-touching notes of "The Last Post" and "Reveille" were sounded hv Trumpeters Bert Tompkins and Frank Stanley (Buckingham), and the beautiful and deeply impressive service closed with "God save the King." Mr. P. Thorpe presided at the organ, and played voluntaries "Tranquil" (Calib Simper) and "Largo" (Handel)
