- Oxford Journal - Saturday 21 April 1900 www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/bl/0000075/19000421/040/0009 CHIPPING NORTON A Transvaal sovereign which was picked up on the battle of Modder River by Private Trinder, of the Yorkshire Regiment, has just realised over £109 by means of a ballot. The coin was balloted under the direction of the Birmingham Post Office Army Reservists' Fund, for the benefit of. the widow and children of' Trinder, who was killed whilst, under a hot fire, heroically obtaining water for a wounded comrade. Private Trinder (son of Mr. John Trinder, of West-street), was a postman attached to. the Birmingham post office.
- Oxfordshire Weekly News - Wednesday 10 September 1902 www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/bl/0002304/19020910/117/0005 AN ECHO OF THE WAR. — On Monday week a gun-metal plate was erected in the parish church, in memory of Private I. D. Trinder, of the Ist Yorkshire Regiment, who was killed at Paardeberg on February 18, 1900. Private Trinder, who was the son of Mr. John Trinder, a well-known inhabitant of Chipping Norton, is the only Chipping Norton man left out in South Africa, and he received his death wound while engaging in a noble act, viz., that of carrying water to a wounded comrade under fire, and it was felt by a number of the inhabitants of Chipping Norton that the memory of Private Trinder should be memorialised in some suitable manner. With this end in view a number of subscriptions were forthcoming, with the result that a plate has been secured and duly erected in the west end of the parish church, near the tower. The work was left in the hands or Mr. S. Lewis. The plate, which is of gun-metal, and is a substantial piece of work, bears the following inscription: "In memory of Private I. D. Trinder, Ist Yorkshire Regiment, killed at Paardeberg. February 18, 1900, while attending the wounded under fire."
