THE FIRST ENGLISH NARINES WERE RAISED ON 28 OCTOBER 1664/AND EVOLVED INTO THE CORPS OF ROYAL MARINES,/WHICH HAS A PROUD HISTORY OF DEFENDING THE REALM IN ALL/PARTS OF THE GLOBE. THE CORPS WAS GRANTED THE FREEDOM/OF ENTRY TO THE BOROUGH OF WIRRAL IN 1998/THIS PLAQUE IS DEDICATED TO THOSE MEMBERS OF THE CORPS/WHO HAVE GIVEN THEIR LIVES IN DEFENCE OF THEIR COUNTRY/AND FELLOW ROYAL MARINES/ONCE A MARINE-ALWAYS A MARINE!
