- Description
- Cenotaph on a plinth of granite with bronze side figures. The top of the Cenotaph is sculptured into three figures representing the Navy, Army and Air Force. At each side of the Cenotaph is a female figure, the one on the left representing a mother bringing the wreath and the other on the right representing the sister or wife bringing the garlands.

- THIS MONUMENT WAS ERECTED IN MEMORY OF THE MEN OF BURNLEY WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR FELLOW COUNTRYMEN IN THE GREAT WAR 1915-1918 MAKE THEM NUMBERED WITH THY SAINTS IN GLORY EVERLASTING THE MONUMENT STANDS ALSO IN HONOUR OF THOSE WHO DIED FOR OUR FREEEDOM 1939-1945 On the Cenotaph: Make them to be numbered with Thy Saints in Glory everlasting. On the base of the Memorial: The sum necessary for the erection of this Memorial was bequeathed by Caleb Thornber, J.P., a former Mayor and Alderman of this Borough, to ensure that the sacrifice which it commemorates should be ever held in grateful remembrance. The Garden of Remembrance was provided by the Townspeople of Burnley.
