- Description
- Broadly rectangular oak board, comprising six panels bearing the names of the Fallen in gold-painted lettering; an additional panel top centre has the carved and painted Regimental crest, beneath which is the gold-painted dedicatory inscription; a figure depicting a London Irish Rifleman stands on each of the brackets of that dedicatory panel. - History
- When the First World War Memorial was originally constructed in 1923, the centrepiece was a painting by Lieutenant G.C. Hudson (framed by Company Sergeant Major T.J. Crome), depicting a London Irish Rifleman with fixed bayonet and wearing a steel helmet, looking out over no-man's-land from the British trenches at dawn; this painting was flanked by three oak panels bearing the names of 1,115 members of the Regiment who had died./ In 1949, the Memorial was reconfigured, replacing the painting with a carved oak panel bearing the dedicatory inscription and two figures of Riflemen, around which the original three World War 1 casualty panels and the three World War 2 casualty panels were arranged.
