Description
Memorial inside church commemorating Lieutenant Colonel MacDougall of Lunga and Captain Iain MacDougall the younger of Lunga. Brass plaque mounted on wall. Note that Iain MacDougall is an example of a very early death and repatriation- he is buried in Kilmhoiri (Kilvoree) Old Churchyard, Craignish. He is also commemorated at Craobh Haven-our reference 70777

(Coat of Arms) TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF / LIEUT: COL: MACDOUGALL OF LUNGA. / 10TH GORDON HIGHLANDERS, / KILLED IN ACTION NEAR VERMELLES, / JULY 21ST 1915. AND HIS SON, / IAIN MACDOUGALL, YR OF LUNGA, / CAPTAIN AND ADJUDANT / 2ND BATTALION GRENADIER GUARDS, / WHO FELL IN ACTION / AT VILLARS COTTERET, FRANCE. / ON THE 1ST SEPTEMBER 1914, AGED 27. THIS TABLET IS ERECTED BY THE PARISH OF CRAIGNISH TO COMMEMORATE / THOSE BRAVE HIGHLANDERS AND VERY GALLANT OFFICERS WHO GAVE / THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR.
