Description
Four-light stained glass window with accompanying brass dedication Ppaque is the work of James Ballantine of Edinburgh. The theme is the Resurrection. he two lights on the left portray the scene described in St. Matthew's Gospel. Mary Magdalene in blue kneels before the Angel of the Lord, a resplendent figure whose robes seem to radiate light. On the ground is the vase of sweet spices which the women had brought to anoint Jesus’ body. Above these figures are the words 'He is not here for He is risen'. In the background can be seen the Hill of Calvary with three crosses. The most dramatic New Testament incidents - the recognition by Mary Magdalene of her risen Lord, as described in St. John's Gospel - is shown in the two right-hand lights. In the background is the open sepulchre, whilst in the foreground Mary Magdalene, robed in brilliant red, kneels with folded hands and enraptured face. Before her is the risen Lord, in robes of coral and white which seems to simulate the dawn of Easter morning. Above the scene are the words 'Touch me not for I am not yet ascended'. In the tracery are angels, one bearing the Crown of Thorns, the other the Crown of Victory. The window was unveiled in 1928 and was the gift of the Rev. T. D. and Mrs Miller, in memory of their two sons who died, both aged 21, in the First World War. The window is now obscured by building work in the church in c 2012
