TO THE GLORY OF GOD/AND IN MEMORY OF/LIEUTENANT IVOR COLIN JAMES/VISCOUNT MAITLAND/LOTHIANS AND BORDER HORSE R.A.C./AND ONLY SON OF THE 15TH EARL OF LAUDERDALE/AND THE COUNTESS OF LAUDERDALE/WHO WAS KILLED IN ACTION IN NORTH AFRICA/ON THE EIGHTEENTH DAY OF JANUARY 1943, AGED 27 YEARS/THIS TABLET IS HERE PLACED/BY HIS SORROWING FATHER, MOTHER, WIFE AND SISTER/"IN AFRICA FAR FROM HIS NATIVE LAND/HE LIES BENEATH THE DESERT'S BURNING SAND/HIS LOT WAS WITH THE DAWN OF LIFE TO DIE/IN BATTLE AT THE DAWN OF VICTORY".
