Condition
History
1946-WW2 Plaques added; 1974-Bronze Plaques added to replace eroding names for WW1 carved into the stonework; 2014-£30,000 WMT grant awarded for a major renovation project; The Bronze Plaques were in poor condition and trapping water against the stone-removed and now in Cookham Cemetery Chapel. Trials were made to recarve the inscriptions in the stone but it was too far deteriorated thus new limestone was sourced. The names were carved into these which were inset into the existing shallow recesses. The WW2 names were added to new limestone panels which were attached to the pedestal. Failed pointing was removed and replaced with lime mortar, the memorial was steam cleaned and the pebble paving replaced with carefully sourced pebbles. Finally an incorrectly spelled name was corrected.
