- Description
- The WW1 Memorial is a very tall granite pillar, with an orb on the top, on an octagonal plinth and base. The dedication panel and 7 names panels are bronze. Behind this is a granite screen wall with a central dedication panel, and two names panels on each side. On the reverse of this panel is a dedication to a casualty from the Malayan conflict.

- Sunday Post - Sunday 26 June 1921 www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/bl/0000566/19210626/032/0003 AYRSHIRE WAR MEMORIAL UNVEILED. Old Cumnock, Saturday. This afternoon the handsome monument erected by the parishioners of Old Cumnock to the memory of the men from the parish who fell in the great war was unveiled by Lieut.-Col. Sir Archibald M'lnnes Shaw, of Ballochmyle, in presence of a large gathering The monument is constructed of granite, the shaft rising from an octagonal base, on which the names of the heroes are engraved in bronze.
- The Cumnock Tryst 2018 Programme-On 6 Oct 2018 there is a world premiere of a new oratorio commissioned by the London Symphony Orchestra and 14-18 NOW (the UK arts programme for the WW1 centenary, to mark the 100th anniversary of the armistice). It was composed by Ian Bostridge and is called 'All the Hills and Vales Along'. It is based on five of the poems of the great war port, Charles Hamilton Sorley, who was shot & killed at the Battle of Loos.

- The Scotsman - Monday 27 June 1921 www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/bl/0000540/19210627/243/0005 WAR MEMORIALS CUMNOCK . — At the unveiling ceremony of Cumnock war memorial in Cumnock new cemetery, Provost Miller, presided; and the Rev. John Warrick, M.A., gave the dedicatory prayer. Provost Miller expressed regref that Brigadier-General Pollok M'Call, C.M.G., D.S.O., under whom the most of their fallen. had served; and who had arranged to perform the unveiling ceremony, had been prevented, from being. with them, Lieut,-Colonel Sir Archibald M'Innes Shaw, who took the place of the Brigadier-General, referred to the great enthusiasm which, the youth of Cumnock had shown at the outbreak of war. The memorial takes the form of a monument . in Creetown silver-grey granite. The base is octagonal. in shape, 7½ feet high, and surmounted by a column 9 feet high, which terminates with; an emblem of a martyr's crown, above which is a ball emblematic of the new world.: The front .panel bears the inscription, "To our honoured . dead, who fell in the Great War 1914-1919." The remaining seven panels are filled with the names of 120 falien.
