The present college derives from the 1972 merger of Daniel Stewart's College and Melville Collge. Melville College had been called the Edinburgh Institution for Languages and Mathematics until 1936

- Description
- A rectangular stone obelisk set on an octagonal stone plinth on a stone base with steps leading up to front and sides. The dedications and names are on bronze plaques set on the front and side faces of the plinth . There are high relief bronze plaques on front and sides of the base of the obelisk , details not determined . On each side of the front and at the back of the memorial are flower beds set within low kerbs .
