Description

Six trees planted around the village playing field to commemorate 5 villagers who fell in the Great War and one soldier who died in 1947

Inscription

CENTENARY MEMORIAL FIELD / DEDICATED O THE / MEN OF DRAYTON ST LEONARD / AND ALL THOSE WHO DIED IN THE TWO WORLD WARS/ 1914-1918 AND 1939-1945/ "IF I SHOULD DIE THINK ONLY THIS OF ME: / THAT THERE'S A CORNER OF A FOREIGN FIELD, / THAT IS FOREVER ENGLAND" / R BROOKE (NOV 1915) / IN NOVEMBER 2015, SIX TREES WERE PLANTED IN THIS FIELD BY / GRATEFUL VILLAGERS TO COMMEMORATE THE MEN WHOSE NAMES ARE / INSCRIBED ON THE VILLAGE WAR MEMORIAL. / THIS PLAQUE WAS DEDICATED AT 0730 ON 1ST JULY 2016, / 100 YEARS AFTER ZERO HOUR ON THE SOMME IN 1916.
