Description
Rectangular brass plaque, the lettering within an ornate border curved at top , further decoration in the spandrels , all incised with the lettering coloured black and initial letters in red .
Inscription
In/Memory of/George Jackson Christian/Commissioner of Sertapoor in Oude/in the East Indies Aged 36 years/Also of Sophia Caroline Anna his wife aged 22 years/and George Hompech his infant son Massacred at Sertapoor /on the 3rd June 1857 in the Mutiny of the Sepoys/Also in Memory of /Sophia Isabella Jesse Christian aged 3 years /snatched from the Massacre at Sertapoor by the heroism of/Lieut George Holmes Burnes /who subsequently perished with her preserver /in Captivity at Lucknow /This Tablet is erected as a token of undying affection /by Charles Raikes , Father of Miss Christian /"And then heard a great voice from Heaven saying/unto them come up hither" Rev:C x1. 12.V/
