Description
The centrepiece is a two-stepped rectangular Portland stone memorial above which is a decorative iron railing which is intended to represent the railings at the Wellington Barracks. The memorial stone has an inscription on its front face which flanks an engraving of the Division's insignia with motto. On the reverse of the stone are the mottos of the individual regiments that comprise the Household Division. The railings have the insignia of the five foot regiments attached whilst the two cavalry regiments' insignia are engraved on the stone memorial. The memorial stone is surrounded by a stone-flagged base inlaid with sections of English and Scottish granite, Irish green marble and Welsh black slate. The interlocking of these stones are deigned to represent the strength of the national bonds shared within the Household Division. On the stone-flagged base is a further flagstone on which details of the unveiling of the memorial are engraved. To the right of the memorial is an integrated metal information plaque and stand which has engraved text in columns and panels, with raised engravings of the seven regiments' insignia and an illustration describing the structure of the Division and details about the design of the memorial. The memorial is situated within a grass clearing at the end of an avenue of plane and maple trees, intended to represent The Mall, London. There are some individual commemorative plaques alongside trees.
