IN MEMORY OF THE BLACKPOOL AND FYLDE/ FAR EAST PRISONERS OF WAR ASSOCIATION/The Blackpool and Fylde Far East Prisoners of War (FEPOW) Association was formed after World War Two by 137 Field Regiment RA TA (known locally as ‘The Blackpool Regiment’.) In subsequent years they welcomed other FEPOWS from Districts further afield. Members formed a very strong comradeship which lasted well into the 21st Century. Sadly, due to age and ill health, the Association had to wind down in 2007. The three and a half years of captivity, starvation and maltreatment suffered by the men under the brutality of their Japanese captors should never be forgotten. This plaque is a permanent reminder of one of the worst conflicts known to man and to the memory of those who died and the spirit of those who endured./ WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.
