Pair of Shoe Buckles in a glazed wooden case

Inscription

A pair of Shoe Buckles that belonged/to the Protestant Martyr, George Wishart/burned to death at St. Andrews, 1545 by/order of Cardinal Beaton. A lineal/descendant, Janet Wishart, Lockerbie/House, gave them to Thomas Porteous, Wamphray/in middle of nineteenth/century. He gave them to Mrs Rogerson,/Gillesbie, whose grandson, gave them/to Dryfesdale Church 1952
