Description
Three large granite stones of remembrance. The central stone is inscribed with the battle honours of the three regiments, flanking an engraved globe, and has a stone path leading to it. In front and flanking the central stone are two stones dedicated respectively to the Royal Norfolk Regiment and the Royal Suffolk and Cambridgeshire Regiments with inscribed insignia and commemorations. Two stone seats flank and face the memorial.

IN 1782 IT WAS ACCORDED THE TITLE 9TH/ (EAST NORFOLK) REGIMENT IN RECOGNITION OF ITS/ STRONG TIES WITH THE COUNTY OF NORFOLK. KING/ GEORGE III OFFICIALLY CONFERRED THE HONOUR OF/ WEARING THE FIGURE OF BRITANNIA AS/ THE BADGE OF THE REGIMENT IN 1799./ THE 9TH WAS RE-TITLED THE NORFOLK REGIMENT, AND/ RULE BRITANNIA WAS ADOPTED AS THE REGIMENTAL/ MARCH IN 1881. IN JUNE 1935, ON THE 250TH/ ANNIVERSARY OF THE RAISING OF THE REGIMENT, KING/ GEORGE V BESTOWED THE HONOUR OF THE PREFIX/ ROYAL IN THE TITLE OF THE REGIMENT./ THE NORFOLK REGIMENT FURNISHED 19 BATTALIONS/ FOR WAR SERVICE IN THE FIRST WORLD WAR WITH THE/ LOSS OF 5576 MEN./ IN THE SECOND WORLD WAR 9 BATTALIONS WERE/ RAISED AND 2073 MEN WERE KILLED. 5 MEMBERS OF/ THE REGIMENT WON THE VICTORIA CROSS DURING/ THE SECOND WORLD WAR, AGREATER NUMBER THAN/ ANY REGIMENT OF THE BRITISH ARMY./ IN AUGUST 1959 THE REGIMENT WAS AMALGAMATED/ WITH THE SUFFOLK REGIMENT TO FORM THE 1ST EAST/ ANGLIAN REGIMENT./ WHEN YOU GO HOME TELL THEM OF US AND SAY/ FOR THEIR TOMORROW WE GAVE OUR TODAY. RETAINING THE SUFFOLK CAP/ BADGE. THE 1ST BATTALION LANDED IN THE LEADING/ BRIGADE ON D-DAY IN JUNE 1944. A FURTHER 6 SECOND/ LINE BATTALIONS WERE ALSO RAISED./ IN AUGUST 1959 THE REGIMENT WAS AMALGAMATED/ WITH THE ROYAL NORFOLK REGIMENT TO FORM THE 1ST/ EAST ANGLIAN REGIMENT./ THIS MEMORIAL IS DEDICATED TO THE OFFICERS AND/ SOLDIERS OF THE SUFFOLK REGIMENT WHO SERVED/ THEIR COUNTRY IN PEACE AND WAR.
