Description
Plaque of 16th century Gothic design, 4 feet 6 inches high x 2 feet wide. “Panel of white statuary marble surrounded by a moulded frame of figured alabaster, with delicately curved leaf ornamentation, characteristic of the Perpendicular period”. On the main panel, at centre top there is a plain cross. The dedication is below this, in Gothic script. Below this is a verse of “O Valiant Hearts”. Below this is the invocation. All lettering is gilded using several fonts.

+/To the glory of God/and in memory of those from/this Parish who laid down/their lives in the Great War/1914-1918/--------/“O valiant hearts, who to your glory came,/Through dust of conflict, and through battle flame,/Tranquil you lie, your knightly virtue proved,/Your memory hallowed in the land you loved.”/--------/Make them to be numbered with/Thy saints in Glory everlasting.
