- Description
- Painting of Mill Hill School, in a glazed wooden frame, with explanatory text panel at the base
- Inscription
- On 3rd September 1939, 255 boys of this School were evacuated from London. For five years St Bees became home to them and to their successors, and for many this was the happiest time of their lives even though, sadly, eleven of those original 255 appear on the School’s Roll of Honour. This Hotel was the school’s “Master’s Commons Room” until July 1 1945. It is now the meeting place for the St. Bees old Millhillians Association, the annual general meeting of which is held here D.V. on the first Sunday of each New Year at noon. Presented by the St. Bees Old Millhillian Association to the Queen’s Hotel.
