In recognition of the men & women of the Air Transport Auxiliary and the 173 who gave their lives for their country 1940-1945/A civilian aircraft ferrying organisation which undertook a major support role to the Royal Air Force and Fleet Air Arm/A.T.A. flew over 150 different types in wartime skies moving 309,011 machines throughout the U.K. and Europe with no navigational aids other than a map and compass/An extraordinary feat, never to be repeated, which deserves to have its place in history/Aetheris Avidi.
