SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF WILLIAM/ FRANCIS DICKSON, MAJOR IN HER MAJESTY'S 62ND REGIMENT OF FOOT, AND ELDEST/ SON OF LIEUT. GEN. SIR JEREMIAH DICKSON/ KCB/ HE DIED A SOLDIER'S DEATH BEFORE/ SEBASTOPOL JUNE 8, 1855 HAVING BEEN KILLED EARLY IN THE MORNING OF THAT DAY/ WHILST GALLANTLY HOLDING "THE QUARRIES"/ AGAINST REPEATED ATTACKS OF THE RUSSIANS./ HIS BODY SLEEPS AMONGST THE NOBLE/ DEAD ON "CATHCART'S HILL" AND THIS/ TABLET IS ERECTED BY THE SURVIVING/ MEMBERS OF HIS FAMILY IN AFFECTIONATE/ REMEMBRANCE OF ONE BELOVED AND/ LAMENTED BY ALL WHO KNEW HIM.
