Description
Rectangular wooden board with a coronet at centre top and moulded border with horizontal moulded line dividing the board into two parts. The top part has a trefoil design with a crest and ribbon bearing the words "Malo Mori Quam FoedarI" (Death rather than Disgrace). The lower part has an incised commemoration.

Crest & Ribbon: MALO MORI QUAM FOEDARI IN REMEMBRANCE/ OF/ MY HUSBAND/ AUBONE ALFRED SURTEES/ BORN OCT 2ND 1865/ DIED NOV 22ND 1920./ AND OF/ MY SON/ CAPT. WILLIAM BEVERLEY SURTEES/ PRINCE OF WALES OWN WEST YORKS REGT./ DIED OF WOUNDS/ RECEIVED IN ACTION ON THE SOMME./ BORN OCT. 6TH 1894/ DIED SEPT. 28TH 1916.
