Description
The principal memorial is a four-sided granite column with slightly tapering sides and pyramid-shaped top supported by a three-stepped base set in a mainly rectangular paved enclosure which holds additional memorials. The column is decorated with the emblem of the Guild and the column and stepped base are engraved in black lettering on each side with a Roll of Honour comprising the names and regiments of Guild members who died in each of the two World Wars. Two wooden benches, with small metal plaques for each of the Guild's regional sections affixed to the bench-backs, flank the memorial. The side panels of the benches have the letters SGGB cut out. There is a carousel horse and pole on a stone base at the back of the enclosure. The entrance to the memorial enclosure, which is marked by gold-painted carousel poles at intervals, has a polished stone tapering plinth with an information plaque affixed to the front.
