Condition
History
The memorial is at Risk, and is unmaintained. I have defined this as at risk because no-one appears to have the care of the tower, which internally is in a collapsed and ruinous state. There is no public access to the tower (I trespassed), and no indication that anyone cares for the tower and memorial. The local St. Bees sandstone is soft and weathers easily, it is a surprise that it has lasted for this long. The tower was built as a folly for the diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria and was once a popular location to visit, hence its location as a war memorial. Dimensions cannot be obtained due to the height above ground.
