- Rectangular white plastic plaque on a dark oak backing
- Inscription
- (Names)/ 48TH SEC. 6TH COY. BOMB DISPOSAL/ ROYAL ENGINEERS/ ON THE MORNING OF THE 18TH AUG. 1940, SIX YOUNG MEN OF THE ROYAL ENGINEERS/ WERE KILLED WHILST ATTENDING AN UNEXPLODED BOMB. THE UXB HAD FALLEN OVER/ NIGHT AND DUE TO ITS LOCATION COULD NOT BE LEFT. THE TIME LAPSE ALSO MEANT,/ AS ALL THE SAPPERS WERE AWARE, THE UXB COULD EXPLODE AT ANYTIME. THE UXB DETONATED WHILST THE SAPPERS WERE EXCAVATING IT, KILLING ALL SIX AND/ INJURING THE LANCE SERJEANT (SIC) IN CHARGE./ L/SGT BUTTON WAS LATER AWARDED THE GEORGE CROSS FOR HIS ACTIONS THAT DAY./ LEST WE FORGET.
