- Herts and Essex Observer Saturday 21/2/1920 reported: 'One of the best of the War Memorials so far erected in the Saffron Walden district is that on the green in the centre of the village of Chrishall, dedicated and unveiled on Sunday afternoon in the presence of practically all of the parishioners. It consists of a solid Cornish granite obelisk standing 12 feet high, surrounded by an unclimbable iron fence. On the front are inscribed in imperishable lead lettering the words: "Erected by the Parishioners of Chrishall in grateful remembrance of the Men from this Parish who fell in the Great War 1914-19", and on either side, right and left are the names: Robert Samuel Brand, George Cranwell, Harry Easter, Thomas Enos Green, Charles Healey, Eustace Hooper, Herbert Margham, Leonard Arthur Rogers with the letters R.I.P. A dedication service was conducted by the Vicar (Rev. W. May). The memorial was unveiled by Mr F.J. Wilkes and Rev. G. Milson, Primitive Methodist Minister of Saffron Walden, who has charge of the Methodist Mission Chapel in Chrishall'.
