Description
Nowy headed tablet with a pink marble border and an inner mosaic border of decorated and gilded tiles. The York and Lancaster badge is within this, top centre. The centre of the tablet bears the inscription, painted onto white tiles.

TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN AFFECTIONATE MEMORY OF/ PRIVATE RICHARD MILLS./ 1ST YORK AND LANCASTER REGIMENT,/ WHO DIED AT HASSAN PIR, KARACHI, INDIA, ON THE 14TH/ JANUARY. 1912 IN A MOST GALLANT ATTEMPT TO SAVE THE LIFE/ OF A COMRADE PRIVATE JOHN HIMSWORTH FROM DROWNING. THIS TABLET IS ERECTED BY THE 1ST YORK AND LANCASTER REGIMENT/ TO COMMEMORATE HIS BRAVERY AND DEVOTION./ GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS, THAT A MAN LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS/ S. JOHN. XV.13.
