Description
Originally a plain oblong brass plaque attached to the organ inside the church. The incised inscription was in upright capital lettering. After removal from the church the plaque was the upper of two plaques attached to the side of a stone block located in the memorial garden. Subsequently a replacement stone tablet was set into the top of the western face of an oblong, rough hewn, sandstone block. The plain tablet has a narrow chamfered border and the incised inscription is in upright capital block lettering. The tablet has infilled holes in each corner.

TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN PROUD AND LOVING MEMORY/ OF THE MEN FROM THIS CHURCH, ALSO HOLMEWOOD AND HIGHFIELDS,/ WHO MADE THE SUPREME SACRIFICE IN THE GREAT WAR./ ALSO AS A TRIBUTE OF HONOUR/ TO THE MEN WHO NOBLY SERVED IN THE SAME CAUSE AND AS/ A THANKSGIVING TO GOD FOR THEIR SAFE RETURN/ ERECTED FEBRUARY, 1920

2 March 2012: The stone had become overgrown with vegetation and the western face inaccessible. c2004: Stone moved to western boundary during installation of a new memorial in the refurbished garden. November 1997: Stolen plaque replaced by stone tablet. 1984: Church demolished. 2 October 1983: Remembrance garden formally opened. c1983: Removed from the church and relocated on the stone near the centre of the remembrance garden. February 1920: Plaque erected in the Zion Primitive Methodist Church.
