Description
A memorial garden dedicated to those who have served within the RAF. The garden has several memorials listed separately on the register as well as individual commemorative benches. The principal memorial within the garden, set on a stone circle reached at the end of a flagstone path, is a stone of remembrance, topped by a statue of an eagle with spread wings straddling a globe. The stone of remembrance is situated at the centre of an RAF roundel comprising four divided quadrants. The stone of remembrance comprises a square block of polished black granite with a commemoration engraved in white lettering above an engraving of the eagle astride the globe. The statue of the eagle and globe are sculpted in stainless steel with the globe depicting the continents of the world and lines of latitude and longitude. The RAF roundel is made of four separate metal segments, each with tapering faces. The red, white and blue of the roundel are created by coloured tiles. The outer border of the base of the memorial is made of lines of identical individual commemorative stone tablets (stone bricks), each headed with an engraving of the RAF Wings insignia. A metal information plaque is situated at the entrance point to the memorial.
