Description
British Railways Class 47 Diesel Locomotive 47577 with attached nameplates. In July 1987 the nameplates were transferred to 47574 at Stratford Depot, and it carried them for ten years.

BENJAMIN GIMBERT, G.C. One of two locomotives names after / Driver B. Gimbert and Fireman J. Nightall / of March who were awarded the / George Cross for their action in / saving the town of Soham from severe / damage by a burning ammunition train / on 2 June 1944. James Nightall was / killed and Benjamin Gimbert / received serious injuries.
