Description
Cast Brass Plaque as a nameplate on London Midland & Scottish Railway Stanier 2-8-0 locomotive class 8F. At Longmoor Military Railway it was painted black. Sergeant Smith was one of three soldiers awarded the VC for the storming of the Kashmir Gate at Delhi on 14 September 1857 during the Indian Mutiny.

History
London Midland & Scottish Railway Loco No. 8021.Built at Crewe Works, 1937. Transferred to War Department c 1942 as No. 575. Worked on Iranian State Railways 1941-44, then on the military railway serving the Canal Zone base in Egypt. Renumbered 511 in 1952. Overhauled at Derby and held at Longmoor Dec. 1954 to 1955, when it was sent to Carnryan. Scrapped 1959.
