History
c1930: Cabinets moved approximately 80 years ago from the former library due to a flood in the science laboratories on the floor above which resulted in water damage to some photographs. War Memorials Trust gave £500 in 2005 towards restoring the damaged photographs. Unfortunately the collection had suffered some water damage and several photos were showing traces of silver nitrate. The oak cabinets in which the photographs were stored were discovered to be a terrible environment for the photographs as the wood is very acidic. Therefore the cabinets were relined to protect the photographs. The photograph collection was cleaned and restored and was put on display at the schools annual service of remembrance on 11th November 2005. The very fine Marble Memorial to those pupils who gave their lives in WW1 was paid for by donations from the people of Ulverston. It is a sad irony that it has not been on display in its original location (The School Hall) since 1932-The Memorial was unveiled in November 1919 in the Hall of The School on the Hart Street site. When the Grammar School moved to Springfield Road in 1932, the Memorial was relocated to the Library of the new school. In subsequent years this room became a staff room and consequently pupils have not had the opportunity to see the Memorial for many years.
