Description
The Western wing of the Sandiacre Memorial Institute and a plaque on a backboard. The Institute is a brick and tile community hall. The plain oblong cast bronze plaque has the raised inscription in Italic sentence case lettering and is mounted on a plain wooden backboard with chamfered edges.
Inscription
"I go into this hoping to do as an Englishman should."/ These were the words written by/ Robert Ivan Doncaster in a letter/ to his parents before going into action/ at Thiepval on July 1st. 1916./ This wing of the Sandiacre Memorial Institute/ is erected in his memory in the hope that/ England may continue to produce sons with the/ same high sense of patriotism and duty.
