- As one former Officer of the Force (William Doig, who died serving in the Royal Highlanders) is known to have been omitted from this memorial, it is possible others were also. (On 27/11/1914 the Forfar Herald reported that Serjeant William Doig of the Black Watch, formerly of the Hamilton Police, had been killed in action, aged 30; www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/bl/0002723/19141127/045/0003 .The Commonwealth War Grave Commission records that he died on 1/11/1914).
- On 2/1/1920 the Carluke and Lanark Gazette reported that the memorial had been unveiled on Monday (29th December); in addition to describing the ceremony, it mentioned that the memorial had been made by the sculptor James Buchanon, of Carluke. www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/bl/0002009/19200102/046/0003
- Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser 3 January 1920 (page 2) reported that the unveiling had taken place on Monday 29th December. Mention was made that, of the Constabulary's officers who had enlisted, one quarter (24) had died and a further quarter had been wounded.

- RPOAS News Oct 2010, magazine of the Retired Police Officers Association Scotland; reported on page 21 that: "In 2008 a member of the RPOAS Lanarkshire branch informed the Branch Committee of the discovery of Lanarkshire Constabulary's War Memorial in what is now Car Park No 8 of Hamilton Sheriff Court . In reporting the find the Committee learned that the names of the memorial had faded and the Branch took action to have the War Memorial refurbished and the names restored". It was renovated in time for the Armistice Service on Sunday 8th November 2009 at which time there was a rededication service, conducted by the Police Chaplain. "Additional funds have since been provided by the Strathclyde Police Benevolent Fund to aid the further restoration to former glory to the names of Lanarkshire Constabulary's No Longer Forgotten Heroes".
