  • DETAILS OF THE POST 1945 CASUALTIES: SGT. JAMES B. ARMSTRONG, RAF, Malaya 1952. James Blacklock Armstrong – age 21 – Sergeant (4038565) 84 Squadron, Royal Air Force. Born 28 January 1931 in Troqueer, Dumfries. Lived at Carisbrooke, New Abbey Road Dumfries. Killed in Action on 3 May 1952 and buried in Cheras Road Christian Cemetery, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Also named on an individual memorial in Maxwelltown West Church, Dumfries. On 3 May 1952, a Bristol Brigand B1 of 84 Squadron crashed South-East of RAF Butterworth. The aircraft was carrying out a strike against suspected terrorist positions near Chenedroh Lake Perak. After firing its rockets at the target, the outer section of the starboard wing broke away, the aircraft dived into the jungle and was destroyed by fire. The casualties were: Flying Officer (Pilot) Basil Alexander Dundonald Cochrane, Sergeant (Navigator) James Blacklock Armstrong, and Technician Cyril John Alexander Cox. BDR.
