Condition
History
In 2015 a War Memorials Trust grant of £715 was offered for repair and conservation work. The stone was dirty and existing pointing was failing potentially allowing water ingress. The incised inscription had lost some of its paint infill. In addition, the hard landscaping around the base of the memorial had cracked and become hazardous while the paintwork on the iron chains and posts was flaking. To address these issues the failed mortar was carefully raked out and then re-pointed using a lime mortar. The stone was cleaned using natural bristle brushes and water while defective paint was removed from the incised inscriptions and then infilled using enamel paint. Repairs were undertaken to the hard landscaping while the iron work was re-painted. Works were completed in 2016 and the grant paid.
