- Daily Record, 2/6/2021: Report re the publication of 'The Ayrshire Police War Memorial', by Alasdair J Malcolm: 'Former cop releases book charting history of Ayrshire police war memorial. A former police officer has gone into print with a book charting the history of Ayrshire's war hero cops. Alasdair Malcolm, who served as a South Ayrshire PC for 30 years, has honoured the fallen with his work. The commemorative book covers the history of the Ayrshire police war memorial and the individuals named on it. Some 21 officers are listed on the memorial, which sits within Ayr police station, after they fell in the two world wars. Alasdair, who joined Strathclyde Police at the age of 20, said: "I felt it was important to chart the history of the war memorial, remembering as it does the Ayrshire Constabulary and Kilmarnock Burgh Police forces who made the ultimate sacrifice. "The book gives some background of policing by the two forces, and the Ayr Burgh Police force, during both conflicts. "In commemoration of the officers named on the memorial, there is also a summary of their service and short lives, and where possible images of the officers themselves. "It hopefully brings a personal and lasting story to the list of 21 names, and perpetuates their memory for future generations." Grandad Alasdair, of Prestwick, completed his 30 years' service entirely in South Ayrshire, retiring in 2015 having been stationed at various times in Ayr, Maybole, Troon, Prestwick and Prestwick Airport. He has been involved in golf administration in Ayrshire for over 30 years, having been President of The Ayrshire Golf Association from 2008 to 2010 and held the post of secretary of the same organisation from 2009 until the present day. The book is available to purchase, priced £9, from www.mybestseller.co.uk/alasdair.malcolm '. www.dailyrecord.co.uk/ayrshire/former-cop-releases-book-charting-24232158
