Description
Approximately square without the corbels, this memorial is framed rather like a fire surround. The central portion bears the regimental badge of the green howards on the left and the family crest (a cockatrice) on the right. Both are painted in the correct heraldic colours. Between them, a cross surrounded by a victor's laurel, both gilded. Around the cross is the word fortiter (resolute-from the family motto). Below this is the inscription and at the base the words "fortiter gerit crucem"

IN AFFECTIONATE MEMORY OF/ JOHN FREDERICK MICHAEL HUTCHINSON/ B.A. LIEUT 6th BATTN. THE GREEN HOWARDS/ WHO DIED IN LIBYA FOR KING AND COUNTRY/ ON JUNE 24th 1942. THIS TABLET IS PLACED/ HERE BY HIS FATHER THE RECTOR OF FLEET/ AND HIS FAMILY.
