- Description
- Approximately square without the corbels, this memorial is framed rather like a fire surround. The central portion bears the regimental badge of the green howards on the left and the family crest (a cockatrice) on the right. Both are painted in the correct heraldic colours. Between them, a cross surrounded by a victor's laurel, both gilded. Around the cross is the word fortiter (resolute-from the family motto). Below this is the inscription and at the base the words "fortiter gerit crucem"
