  • The Scotsman - Tuesday 15 November 1921 www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/bl/0000540/19211115/224/0007 AUCHTERTOOL. ~ The war memorial to the fallen of the Church and Parish of Auchtertool, Fife was unveiled and dedicated in presence of a large gathering of parishioners . The memorial takes the form of a stained-glass window designed by Mr James Ballantine, F. S. A. Scot., Edinburgh, and representing "The fallen .. warrior receiving from an angel the crown of victory." It bears the names of 32 soldiers, and was unveiled by Mr D. Holland the father of two of the fallen soldiers. The preacher was Rev. Dr Macmillan, of Kelvinhaugh, Glasgow, a former minister of the parish, and he was assisted in the service by Rev. J. S. W. Irvine, B. D., the present minister. At the close of the service "The Flowers of the Forest" was played by a piper, and "The Last Post" was sounded by two buglers.
  • Fifeshire Advertiser 19 November 1921 "Memoral Window at Auchtertool" A beautiful ceremony took place on Sunday afternoon in Auchtertool Parish Church at the unveiling of a war memorial stained glass window. Rev JSW Irvine minister of the church preached to a specially large congregation. The unveiling was performed by Mr D Rolland, grieve at Linnhead Farm, who lost two sons in the war. The subject of the window is "Crowning the Warrior", a kneeling soldier receiving a crown of laurel wreaths from a angel. There are over 40 names on the memorial of men from the parish who fell in the war, including a large number from Cowdenbeath, a part of which is in the parish of Auchtertool.
