- Description
- Four-walled stone structure surmounted by eight turrets plus four arching buttresses. One buttress reaches up from each corner to the centre where they meet and hold up a large stone crown. The turrets are located at each corner and in the centre top of each wall. Each one is surmounted by a carved thistle motif. Each wall is inlaid with arch-topped stone inscription tablet for WW1 above a rectangular stone inscription tablet for WW2. Badges of scouts guards, Royal Scots, Highland Light Infantry and Gordon Highlanders carved into corner turrets. Each WW1 tablet has a thistle carved at the top. Main WW1 inscription tablet has a coat of arms used by Dalkeith at the top and under that are four oak leaves per saltire then the inscription wording then a lion couchant.
