Description
Rectangular brass plaque with lanceolate head on black marble ground of same shape. The inscription is largely in gothic characters with decorated roman caps. The letters are gourged and the lower case are filled in black. Some of the capitals are filled in red. The border consists of a chain of leaves between two lines , with red diagonal cross buttonee in the lower corners. At the top of the tablet is a badge consisting of a buckled belt secured in an oval shape, bearing the monogram V and surmounted with a crown. The words Punjab Cavalry are inscribed around the belt.

Sacred/ to the memory of/ CLAUDE FREDERICK GAMBIER/ Lieut. Colonel 5th Punjab Cavalry./ Seventh and youngest son of/ S. James and Maria Rolanda Gambier/ of Ashley Lodge./ Leckhampton, Gloucester. Born 3rd May 1852, Died at Dehra Ghazi Khan/ Punjab frontier/ 20th April 1898./ Erected in loving memory by his Widow.
