  • Derby Daily Telegraph 14/4/1915 reported: 'LITTLE EATON AND THE WAR. NAMES ON ROLL OF HONOUR. Since outbreak of hostilities in August this village has done its share in contributing to the national efforts to meet the emergency. Nearly 70 young men of the village have volunteered for active service, and many of them have already been in the trenches. Two of them have laid down their lives in their country's cause, viz., George Smith and Harold Grace, and the rest are eager to do their share, and have even declined promotion in order to get more quickly to the scene of action. A band of Home Guards, 20 strong, has also been formed, and are keenly enjoying their strenuous training. In this particular branch of war work it was hoped a larger number would have enrolled themselves, and it may be that the exigencies of the campaign will require the services of every able-bodied man'. www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/bl/0000327/19150414/005/0002
