Description

Beech tree planted in school grounds on the site where a Lancaster PA269 being flown by members of 300 Polish Bomber Squadron crashed in 1946. Note: There is also a plaque inside the school commemorating this incident which bears the names of the six airmen who were killed - see memorial reference 55366.

History

Believed that the commemorative tree came into being on February 4th of 1996 marking the 50th anniversary of the crash of the Lancaster. The tree is planed at the center of a 6 pointed star: the 6 points of the star are for the Airmen that died.
